Bento #290

After last week’s burst of creativity, I just can’t get inspired this week. Meh.
I finally found vegetable cutters at the Japanese store this weekend, and I didn’t even have the energy to use them until now! That should serve as an indication for my lack of creativity right now.

Anyway, this bento contains:
Broccoli, kimchi dumplings, carrot flowers, soy sauce and half a hard-boiled egg in the big box.
Bulgur in the small box. Bulgur may not really be a traditional accompaniment to dumplings anywhere, but I didn’t have the head for cooking rice last night.

Bento #289 – Tux #3

Third and last Tux design of the week, this time modeled after the round button-style icons you get in some window managers.

More onigiri stuffed with tuna, vegetarian dumplings, broccoli, carrot, tomatos, a candy and a fishy with soy sauce.

Continuing the Tux theme with a Ninja Tux (hiding in front of a black background)!
Since I think that cheese on rice or Nori is weird, Tux is actually made out of omelette. First I split two eggs and made an egg-sheet out of the whites, then I blended the yolks and the leftover white and made some more with the yellow part. Worked pretty well, and I even have some left over for the next bento!
Details are nori.

Together with the rice I’ll have fishsticks, half an avocado, cherry tomatos and there’s also a fishy bottle with ketchup for the fishsticks. (This is actually the BF’s box – mine was smaller and the avocado didn’t look so fresh in it. But it’s still tasty, so everything is fine.)

Bento #287

Monday’s not a good day for making bentos in the evening, so a somewhat less elaborate bento today. There’ll be more penguins later this week, be assured.

Italian flag pasta – tossed with pesto and fried mangold on top, tossed with butter and parmesan on top, and tossed with tomato sauce and more of the same sauce on top. Not quite as Japanesely clean as three-colour rice but fun to make!

This weeks Bento Challenge is “Penguins”!
I am a geek, so I had no choice.

Tux is an onigiri stuffed with tuna (since any good penguin wants to be stuffed with fish!). The details are nori and rice coloured with turmeric.
Then there’s cherry tomatoes, avocado (with a SuSE chameleon hiding on it), pieces of mini quiche, soy sauce fishy bottle, celery, olives and a Toblerone chocolate.

This is my own box, which is slightly smaller. I made this one first, and learned from my mistakes – hence why I like the BF’s better :)
If you’re wondering how on Earth I’m gonna close that one – I lost the lid to it a while ago, so I don’t have to worry about that <.<; I'm putting another box on top and tying it together with a napkin.
The BF's closed fine, though.
