The were rabbit lives in front of a computer monitor in Sweden and is primarily a geek. Apart from that, she is a software engineer by day and artist by night, unless sleep gets the better of her. In the dreamlike sleep between waking up and going to work, she sometimes manages to pack lunchboxes and snap pictures of them which she posts on this blog.
I do not think that “pescetarian” is a word, so I will say this about my eating habits: I do not eat meat and poultry, but will sometimes eat fish and seafood to boost my protein and mineral intake (mmm, mercury). This is not strictly vegetarian, and never vegan, but close enough for me as I have no moral inhibitions against eating meat – it is a health decision. Please refrain from flaming me for it.

I’m not meaning to flame you, but I just want to point out that you calling yourself a vegetarian really muddies the word for the true vegetarians and makes omnis think that vegetarians eat fish. Which they do not and which is a constant source of mayhem in vegetarians’ lives. Just something to think about.
Oh, Desiree, lighten up. If they want to eat fish, it isn’t a mortal sin. Goodness!
I am not a vegetarian, by any turn of that phrase – I enjoy meat, poultry, etc. but I admire you for being healthy and all that.
It’s OK…everybody’s turning flexitarian(as people might say in the U.S.)

I love your blog!
For me bento’ing is very much about presentation and you obviously know how to work it out. Even if you are a “pescetarian” you still leave all us meat-lovers envious and drooling. ;)
I simply don’t have the imagination to go meatless – otherwise I might.
Thanks for all the inspiration.

Hello! I just found your blog and think it is great! I just moved to Sweden to study abroad here and am getting interested in vegetarian bento lunches as well. I wanted to ask you if you could recommend any places where I could purchase a real bento box (I just picked up a tupperware from Ikea that will work for now), or other bento supplies. I was also wondering if there are any Asian food markets that you can buy things like mochi or sushi rice from, or if you can just get that at a regular grocery store. I am living in Lund, but will also be frequenting Malmo and Gothenburg. Thank you for your help and keep up the great blogs!
– Amanda
I stumbled across your website via another food blog I frequently visit and I must say I love your blog. It’s full of nutritious recipes and looks beautiful too. Keep up the good work. I will definitely be back to indulge my food obsession.
Hello Amanda,
I don’t live in Lund sadly but there should be Asian grocery stores close to you as well (there is one in nearly every town in Sweden, it seems). Gothenburg is a very international town where you are certain to find even specialised stuff :)
For sushi rice, there is some (overpriced) rice labelled “sushi rice” on the supermarket shelves, but I have done just as well with other round- or medium grained rice sorts such as Arborio (risotto rice). But it’s cheaper to just buy a big bag of rice at the Asian grocery store, if they have roundgrained.
;)
Hi, were rabbit! ^^ I found your site off of an LJ bento community and I just wanted to say I love all your recipes and I’m amazed at how vibrant your pictures are.
I am curious, though. It seems like you grow a lot of your own ingredients, which I think is fabulous, but I was wondering where, exactly? It may say it somewhere in your blog, but I figured it couldn’t hurt to ask. ^^;; Do you have a little greenery area to do it in, do you get your mushrooms from the forest?
That’s it. ^^; Sorry to bother.
Noticed your post on the Daily Tiffin and saw this pic of your Autumn soup: http://dailytiffin.blogspot.com/2007/09/tiffin-tuesday-autumn-soup.html
I’m interested in the container. What kind/brand is it? I’m looking for one to hold curries and soups, but can’t seem to find one. Can you provide me with container brand name?
Thanks.
Hello CityGal,
I have a short writeup about the soup container here: https://wererabbits.wordpress.com/2007/04/27/bento-loot/
It has a label with the tag “CREZ HL”. Since I bought it at a local shop, I’m not sure if it’s available where you live, though :(
Most people who use thermal containers order a Mr. Bento or Ms Bento container. I have seen a lot of good reviews about them. If you can’t find mine, this should be a good alternative!
;)
I really love your bento, so colorful and simple but so fantastic !
You really know how to do bento ^^
What a lovely site.
I would call you a Vegequarian – fish eating vege.
We’ve had our first week of bentos lunches this week and it has been ace.
Hi Anna,
Very nice site you have build here, congrats! you really can mix colors and give them live even in the lunchbox.
By the way can you drop me an email I do not have your email.

Bravo!!! And it’s rare that I find someone who eats like I do. I eat mostly vegetarian but occasionally fish to enhance my protein and omega-3 intake that I just can’t get out of flaxseeds. I love your blog! Thanks for the inspiration :) and I think I like the idea that Popo has about calling myself a vegequarian. :D

I am living in Japan, and though not a vegetarian, admire your bentos, your eating philosophy and beautifully fresh ingredients.
Hope my bento will rise to the occasion too.

Dear were rabbit,
Apologies for posting this in your comments, but I could not seem to find a contact email.
I’ve been admiring your bento website and am amazed at your delicious and cute bentos, and the creativity of the growing online bento community.
I thought you might be interested in a fun bento designing contest that we are hosting at Japan Society, a non-profit cultural organization based in New York City. We’ve organized a day-long open house event with a food theme called j-CATION: Taste Japan and one of the activities is a virtual bento box battle. (It’s “virtual” since you don’t have to live in NYC or attend the event to enter.)
All the details and guidelines are here: http://www.japansociety.org/j-cation_info#virtual_bento_box_battle
I hope you — or perhaps your website’s fans — will enter. The prizes are pretty great (Panasonic rice cooker and hot water pot, Canon printers, MUJI bento boxes) and all the photo entries will be shown at j-CATION on April 10 in NYC.
Please let me know if you have any questions – I know the deadline is soon but I hope you’ll consider taking on the challenge!
Best regards,
Christy Jones

Hi,
by coincidence i stumbled over your blog. Nice blog and to see you put something on the web again.
How can I subscribe?
I love this blog. I’m a new fan. And I’m eating much less meat for both health and moral reasons… I do eat fish though… and have been worried about mercury…
your blog gives me the inspiration and nudge to create healthy meals without a meat. Thank you. :)
As both a geek and a food lover, finding this blog was simply heaven! Thanks for sharing your ideas and amazing photos. Someday, hopefully soon, I’ll dip my toe into bento.
Thanks for visiting my flickr photo-stream http://www.flickr.com/photos/lkn4aurum/, I’m not a vegetarian but I think your images are mouthwatering, beautifully photographed, colorful creations, I love them.
I’m not sure if this is your style, but have you ever tried making Ethiopian Wat? My room mate and I make a vegetarian version, and I use the spice mix berber often in my cooking. We thicken the stew using heavy cream and smooth it out using a blender (similar to smoothing out a soup). The dish is called Yataklete Wat. There are a lot of variations of the spelling.
I love your blog, and wanted to let you know I nominated you for a one lovely blog award: http://veggiebentolove.wordpress.com/2012/08/14/august-14-2012-one-lovely-blog-award/
