Sometimes you feel like making an elaborate bento.
And sometimes… you don’t.
But on the other hand, there’s never enough time to praise the awesomeness of peanut butter. PB, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways…
I never tasted any peanut butter when I grew up. It’s just not stuff we have much over here. I first tried it when I was visiting a friend from the States. At first, I was suspicious – salty peanut paste and marmelade on the same toast? – but once I bit into it, I was an immediate convert. What I had missed!
It’s not just a toast spread either – it makes a great dip for all kinds of vegetables, I put it into my pad thai sauce to increase the already lovely peanuttiness, and let’s not even get into all the awesome possibilities of stirfry and satay sauce…!
I like mine best chunky, and without additional sugar. Sadly the grocery stores (where you can even get it, it will be in the “import” section if you don’t have to go to an Aisan supermarket to get it in the first place…) have stopped carrying that variant right now, it seems. Sigh.
How do you like yours?
I like very smooth peanut butter with butter on soft bread. Peanut butter seems to stick in the mouth, so the butter softens that stick. Soft bread punched out in some design is cute.
Oh, that could be the summary of my whole blog, “Lazy Bento.” LOL Well, at least the bento parts of it!
I have four kids so I buy chunky sweetened peanut butter (Jif) sold in the biggest jars possible at Costco. We mostly buy creamy pb for toddlers or Christmas baking. I’d be happy to buy unsweetened pb if it were sold in a reasonably sized jar–as a “specialty” type it’s always the smallest and most expensive.
I like mine crunchy too. Yet I grew up with only the smooth variety, sometimes Skippy, sometimes a natural brand, sometimes homemade. In high school they had it on the salad & sandwich bar in chunky style and I switched and never bought chunky since unless I’m making homemade chocolate pb cups! I like mine sweetened though.
my Whole Foods used to let you buy the peanuts and butter them yourself using a machine. don’t know if they still do as I don’t shop there much anymore but something to check out?
