I bought a portable gas stove at the Japanese store recently!
It says outdoor use only but I bet none of the Japanese people that are buying things from the store believe that. So I didn’t either.
Mmm, salmon sukiyaki. Just like regular one, minus the meat but plus thinly sliced salmon. (I didn’t have chinese cabbage at home though… *sigh*)
I could use some hints on how to use it though – I love cooking over a gas flame but can you grill on it or is that unhealthy? I know some other bento’ers use gas stoves so if you know a good link, please send it my way!
What beautiful, beautiful pictures !! You’re so lucky to have found a gas stove ! I wish I could find one here too… and a kotatsu too, but that’s a different story (not that I need it that much right now :p)
We’ve always used ours inside.
That looks so yummy. I wish we were more than 2 people. Hot pot is no fun when you don’t have a large group to have loads of variety in food.
I think the outdoor use only is because there is no safe guard for ventilation and a risk is carbon monoxide poisoning. I had a similar warning on my camp stove (that I used for the first time this weekend). I’d say that if you’re using it indoors, that you make sure there is good ventilation. Carbon monoxide is odorless, so you don’t get a warning that it’s present.
Do you have a recipe for salmon sukiyaki? I love sukiyaki, but haven’t been able to find a decent recipe. Yours looks delicious!
I use the same broth as normal sukiyaki uses. It’s dashi stock (bonito flakes and konbu) with soy, mirin and sugar. Possibly a bit stronger than I make for normal soup though.
I just replace the meat strips with fish strips (it’s easy to cut frozen salmon) and pre-fry the tofu with some miso to make it tastier.
;)
